NOT FAIR TO ALL PATIENTS! My 4month old daughter went to this office to see Dr. Irwin since he had done her nursery visits when she was born. I really liked the office until it came to her 2month well check appt. She had her physical part at the office, but was sent to the local health department for her shots because "they were out of stock." I thought that was weird, so before her 4month check up, I called to confirm the appt and asked if they would be giving her the shots there. I was asked what kind of insurance I had (which was Blue Cross Blue Shield), then after being put on hold, I was told that they do not have them. I asked, "if I had another kind of insurance, would my daughter get her shots?" and was transferred to a nurse who said, my daughter would have to get her shots at the health dept and "We only have shots in stock for Medicaid insurance patients because other insurance companies don't repay us as quickly and for some, we don't know if they'll even pay us back at all." I was FURIOUS! Are you kidding me? My daughter deserves the SAME treatment as every other patient!! Just because we are NOT on welfare and my husband WORKS for a living, my daughter will have to get half of the service elsewhere and actually go the the welfare office just to get a complete check up! This all happened today, 2/28/2012, but the happy ending to the story is that Coastal Pediatrics gives shots to both state and private insurances no matter what and happily took my daughter as a patient. I do not recommend Albemarle Family Practice for children unless you're comfortable with driving all over town to get one thing done and are willing to pay two different offices for what should all be ONE SERVICE at ONE OFFICE.
